Uncommon Restoration
Founded in 2021, Uncommon Restoration is an imprint label of Uncommon Records, owned and managed by Uncommon Nasa and Short Fuze. The imprint releases 45RPM 7” records of under appreciated classic works, most of which has never appeared on vinyl and none that have ever had a 45 release. There are several missions to this imprint. First, to bring light to back catalog Uncommon Records (and beyond) releases that should be highlighted. Releases being put out by Restoration can stem from the late 2000’s time period between the physical and streaming eras where many gems were misplaced. Or they can be classics that can now appear in a brand new format or that never had a physical release due to financial or other restraints. The second mission of the imprint is to bring 45RPM/7” formatted releases to the Underground Hip-Hop genre. While 45s are becoming popular for large scale releases from the Golden Era, Soul & Funk and Reggae genres, classic underground and alternative/experimental hip-hop has not embraced it as fully as Uncommon Restoration will. The line up under the UNR catalog number banner will continue to grow over the years to come, bring some creative twists to some classics while celebrating Uncommon Records’ history.
The 4th 7” in our 45 RPM series from Uncommon Restoration! This single comes from Acid Reign’s “Diversity” album, at a time when the active emcees in Acid Reign were Gajah and Beond.
Babalu finds Gajah (R.I.P.) at the height of his powers joined by Beond as they formed a power duo kicking out a cautionary tale over EQ production.
Fantastic 4 is an all timer from 4 emcees that live up to the title of the track. Neila and Myka 9 make every word count, side by side with Gajah and Beond on this undisputed classic, produced by Bornagen Baldwin.
