Originating from Staten Island, New York, Masai Bey has a message to send in his music - from his unique approach to Afrocentrism, his celebration of hip-hop’s uplifting nature, warnings of evils in the world or just declarations of his own dopeness - Masai is loud and clear. An emcee’s emcee and a poet’s poet, he’s also a producer who’s style can stretch from sample based lo-fi boom bap to synthesized originality that breaks electronic sub-genrefication. Each of Masai’s projects strike a different tone while remaining true to their core. Uncommon Records now has the incredible responsibility of getting the man’s catalog back to the masses digitally and through new vinyl releases. You will hear from Masai Bey, not just from the impact of his voice but from the impact of his message.
This 15th Anniversary edition is the first time C87 has been presented in a physical format and it's the first time the Instrumentals have been released. Featuring jaw dropping original artwork from HeDreamtMars, this new layout and design by DJ Jazzpants captures the deeper concepts and experimentalism that Masai Bey and B.M.S. present on their classic C87 album. The CD includes a forward by Uncommon Nasa (he engineered the new primary as well) as well as a vintage photo and details of the cover artwork in a gatefold digipack.
Masai Bey’s classic album, The Panacea Goldmind, is available in physical form for the first time ever on it’s 15th Anniversary. Fully Produced and Mixed by Masai Bey, the album has a brand new primary engineered by Nasa @ Nasa Labs, NYC. It also includes from photos of Masai from the time period of the release and liner notes from Uncommon Records’ owner and founder, Uncommon Nasa.
In time for it's 20th Anniversary, for the first time as a 45RPM 7" vinyl single, it's Masai Bey's classic Paper Mache. Originally released by Definitive Jux, with 2 tracks produced by EL-P (Run the Jewels, Company Flow), Uncommon Restoration now brings this hidden gem back to the surface in a whole new way! The jarring, room stopping production on Paper Mache and trio of wisdom on The Beginning (which also features BMS and Vast Aire) are now ready to be heard by a new generation thanks to Uncommon Records and Uncommon Restoration. 100 Copies only.
